Unit Amanah Suitable For Muslim?

The answer is YES, in Malaysia the unit trust investment in Shariah-compliant securities that form majority of the securities that are listed on Bursa Malaysia are suitable for Muslims. The Shariah-based Unit Trust fund is a collective investment schemes that offer investors the opportunity to invest in a diversified portfolio of Islamic capital market instrument.

These Shariah-Based Unit Trust Funds was managed by professional fund managers in accordance with Syariah requirements. Apparently was appointed to Shariah committee or Shariah Adviser.

The Criteria for Shariah-based Unit Trust are companies that are not involved in these following core activities :

  • Conventional Insurance
  • Manufacture or sale of non-halal products or related products
  • Gambling
  • Financial Services based on riba (interest)
  • Entertainment activities that are non-permissible according to Shariah
  • Manufacture or sale of tobacco-based products or related products
  • Stockbroking or share trading in Syariah non-compliant securities
  • Other activities deemed non-permissible according to Shariah

It still doesn’t looks to be confident for you ?

Many might ask about the distributions and dividends flow in this Unit Trust investment. In Islamic finance term “Gharar” ( Sesuatu Yang Tidak Pasti atau ketidaktentuan ) describing a risky or hazardous sale, where details concerning the sale item are unknown or uncertain. The Quran explicitly forbids trades that are considered to have excessive risk due to uncertainty.

The conclusion is all the distributions and dividends need to be withdraw for prevention it grow. The profit or interest still can be used by Muslims in the different way such as pay for debts or drains it into the Non-Governmental Organizations for  sosial needs
